This is a quick fix for an issue I’ve been having recently. Due to a glitch with my Windows installation (will fix when I have time!), it sometimes freezes up and needs to be restarted.
After the restart Local decides to hide in the processes in taskmaster. Why so shy!?! So technically it’s kind of launching but not in any way that’s helpful.
Now I’m no expert and I can’t work out the underlaying reason (although I suspect it’s the way the hosts file is handled).
But this quick fix worked for me, so if nothing else it might get you out of a jam!
- Before doing anything, locate your sites folder, usually PC > [your username] > Local Sites (You’ll know you’re in the right area if there is a list of your websites in there)
- *IMPORTANT* Zip and backup all your website folders in there (individually)
- Uninstall Local (The first time I reinstalled Local but nothing changed, hence the next step)
- Navigate to PC > [your hard drive] > Users > [your username] > AppData > Roaming > Local
- Delete the whole Local folder (this is NOT the same as your local sites folder)
- Re-install Local
- Restart the PC
- Delete the website folders in your Local Sites folder (Don’t forget to keep the zip/backups in another folder!)
- Open Local (hopefully it should be working again!)
- The interface will be empty, this is where you drag your zipped website folders
- If it saying that a folder already exists that’s because it’s picking up the original website folder. But it still needs to be re-imported, so delete the original folder stated in the previous step (remember your backups just in case!).
- Repeat the dragging website zips into the interface and there you go!
